Biddle, Bishop & Smith was created by the 1969 merger of two prominent Philadelphia brokerage firms, one founded in 1923 by Nicholas Biddle and Stockton Townsend, the other established 10 years later by Richard Haughton, Philip B. Weymouth and Thomas L. Bishop. The firm was headquartered in the Merlin Towers Building located at 1518 Walnut Street in Philadelphia for many years. Following the acquisition of a couple of well-known Main Line brokerage firms in 1987 and thereafter, the firm relocated to the Philadelphia suburbs and the Agency name was simplified to "Biddle & Company" in acknowledgment of the various principals who had contributed over the years to create the unique personality of the organization. The current officers of Biddle & Company are: Mark F. Miller, President; James G. Flatt, Executive Vice President; and Peggy Donovan, CPCU, Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer. Historically, the quality of our accounts has been our trademark. We are proud of our book of business which includes many prestigious companies, professional firms, service groups, non-profit organizations, real estate operations, manufacturers, retail and wholesale operations, and individuals in the region. This has also allowed us to retain representation of many of the leading insurance carriers in the industry today. The reputation we have gained over our 92-year history has put us in an enviable position of strength in dealing with the complexities of today's insurance marketplace. Our long and profitable relationship with many of our key carriers dates back to the 1920's. We believe this gives us a competitive advantage in servicing our clients' insurance and benefits needs.
